What is the difference between multi-spring and single-spring mechanical seals?

Based on the number of springs in the compensation mechanism, mechanical seals can be divided into multi-spring and single-spring types. A seal that uses multiple springs in the compensation mechanism is called a multi-spring mechanical seal (Figure 5) ； A mechanical seal that contains only one spring in its compensation mechanism is called a single-spring mechanical seal (Figure 6). The multi-spring mechanical seal, also known as the small-spring mechanical seal, has a smaller axial dimension. The elastic force can be adjusted by changing the number of springs, resulting in a more uniform axial force. It is suitable for high-speed mechanical seals, but is not appropriate for use in corrosive media. The single-spring mechanical seal, also known as the large-spring mechanical seal, has a relatively simple sealing structure. Some sealing types also use springs to transmit torque. Domestic seals use large springs frequently, but they cannot be used at high speeds.
