With the successful ignition of the ultra-high pressure gas boiler at the power plant, Guangdong Petrochemical’s steam system is now ready for operation, marking the transition of this project to a new phase of comprehensive pipeline purging. As of 16:00 on May 7, 2024, the boilers at Guangdong Petrochemical Power Center have been supplying steam continuously for 741 days, with a total output of over 142 million tons of ultra-high pressure steam, thereby providing stable power supply for the company’s various refining and chemical processing units. The 4 boilers at the Guangdong Petrochemical Power Center have high design capacities and large-scale installations, which require a high level of skill from the operators. The staff continuously summarize their experience to gradually achieve high-standard operation of the boiler system. To date, the utilization rate of device interlocks has reached 100%, the automatic control rate is 100%, the compliance rate of flue gas emissions is 100%, and the operational stability rate is over 99.99%. While ensuring the stable operation of the boiler system, the power center actively works to reduce operating costs by using petroleum coke to produce hydrogen fuel gas and methane-rich gas for the ethylene plant, thereby significantly cutting back on the use of purchased natural gas. In 2023, natural gas consumption was reduced by 490 million standard cubic meters in total, helping Guangdong Petrochemical save over 1.2 billion yuan in costs related to the purchase of natural gas. At the same time, the power center makes scientific adjustments to key processes such as waste discharge and chemical dosing, resulting in annual savings of 1.8 tons of trisodium phosphate and over 20,000 tons of steam; moreover, the parameters of boiler water, steam, and feedwater remain within acceptable ranges. In addition, the power control center optimizes the flow rate at which the feed water pumps operate, taking into account their operating conditions; as a result, one boiler feed water pump can be removed, resulting in annual electricity savings of over 15 million kWh.
I. Basic concept of ultra-high pressure gas boilers Ultra-high pressure gas boilers are hot water boilers that use natural gas, liquefied petroleum gas, and similar fuels; their main feature is the ability to convert thermal energy at very high pressures. The ultra-high pressure gas boilers at the Guangdong Petrochemical Power Center offer excellent energy-saving performance, which has made them highly popular among users. II. Structure of the ultra-high pressure gas boiler The ultra-high pressure gas boiler at the Guangdong Petrochemical Power Center features a compact design and occupies little space; it is mainly composed of four parts: the furnace chamber, a double-layer insulation system, the boiler body, and the flue gas system. Among them, the furnace adopts a water-cooled wall structure, which can effectively improve the thermal power density of the boiler and enhance its service life and stability ; A double-layer insulation system can reduce heat loss from the boiler, thereby improving its thermal efficiency ; The boiler body is the main component of the entire boiler, including the boiler chamber, combustion apparatus, water circulation system, etc ; The flue gas system mainly includes components such as waste heat recoverers and exhaust chimneys. III. Advantages of ultra-high pressure gas boilers The ultra-high pressure gas boilers at the Guangdong Petrochemical Power Center possess several advantages, including: 1. High thermal efficiency: Ultra-high pressure gas boilers have a very high thermal efficiency, which can exceed 95% ; 2. Simple to operate: The boiler’s control system is highly intelligent, enabling fully automatic operation ; 3. Energy conservation and environmental protection: Compared with traditional boilers, ultra-high pressure gas boilers offer significant energy savings, and the exhaust gases they produce are also more environmentally friendly. IV. Application scenarios of ultra-high pressure gas boilers The ultra-high pressure gas boilers at the Guangdong Petrochemical Power Center can be widely used in industrial production, civil buildings, and other fields. For example, in industries such as chemicals, pharmaceuticals, and food processing, large amounts of hot water and steam are often required, and ultra-high pressure gas boilers can meet these needs. In civil buildings, ultra-high pressure gas boilers can be used for heating and hot water supply.
Thank you for organizing and sharing the materials! Give a thumbs up and offer encouragement for the achievements of China’s chemical technology and equipment sector!
At 11:56 on April 26, 2022, following intense construction and preparation work, the Sinopec Guangdong Petrochemical integrated refining and chemical project reached an important milestone as the first trial operation of the entire facility was carried out. With the successful ignition of the ultra-high pressure gas boiler at the power plant, Guangdong Petrochemical’s steam system is now ready for operation, marking the transition of this project to a new phase of comprehensive pipeline purging. The Guangdong Petrochemical Power Center serves as the core for steam supply throughout the plant; it not only ensures the balance of steam demand across the entire plant but also provides essential steam for pipeline purging and commissioning activities in all projects. The center is equipped with 4 ultra-high-pressure gas boilers, each capable of producing 450 tons of ultra-high-pressure steam per hour. By means of cooling, pressure reduction, and driving steam turbines, it can generate high-, medium-, and low-pressure steam, and it also has the capability to produce electricity. Among them, high-pressure steam serves as the steam drive force for the quench oil pump, the chiller, and multiple compressors ; Medium-pressure steam is used for heat tracing and pipeline purging ; Medium and low-pressure steam is used as a heat source for reboilers and heat exchangers, providing power support for the facility. As a prerequisite for the commissioning of the facility, putting the steam system into operation without any supporting infrastructure is in itself a highly complex systems engineering task. In particular, the various supporting systems such as desalinated water systems, flare lines, substations, and natural gas pipelines interact with one another, making overall coordination extremely difficult; as a result, bringing the project online on schedule remains a significant challenge. To this end, Guangdong Petrochemical Company put forward a comprehensive plan titled “123456,” emphasizing boiler ignition as a top priority among the “four key milestones.” It organized specialized teams to optimize the construction schedule and coordinate the overall progress. During the Spring Festival, officials and employees remained on site, worked against a tight schedule, and made every effort to ensure safety, maintain quality, and accelerate progress. On February 14, the accompanying 10KV substation was put into operation, and on February 21, the water produced by the demineralized water system met the required standards ; At the end of February, all construction work on the elevated torch was completed 33 days ahead of schedule ; On April 24, natural gas was successfully delivered to the plant, and all associated construction projects were completed simultaneously at a pace faster than usual. As the critical phase of boiler ignition began, the Party members and cadres at Guangdong Petrochemical took the lead in working on-site, organizing nearly 900 personnel to take turns carrying out their duties. They implemented equipment commissioning plans and pipeline flushing procedures, created lists of blind flanges in the system as well as forms for coordinating power supply to and from the equipment. By coordinating all units of the utility systems to operate in an orderly manner, they ensured the successful completion of the ignition task.
At 8:00 on January 2, 2023, Unit 3 of the power center in China Petroleum’s Guangdong Petrochemical integrated refining project, whose commissioning was carried out by China Energy Engineering Group South China Electric Power Research Institute, successfully completed a 168-hour full-load trial operation. The boiler exhibits excellent economic performance metrics, and its environmental protection parameters exceed the **ultra-low emission standards, meeting the conditions for commercial operation. Throughout the entire startup and commissioning phase, the main boiler-related equipment as well as its auxiliary devices operated safely and stably; all parameters met the requirements of the design specifications. The unit’s load satisfied the standard requirements, while the utilization rates of electrical protections, thermal control protections, automation systems, and instruments were all 100%. The denitration system was also put into operation simultaneously. To ensure the successful completion of the trial operation for Unit 3, the commissioning team worked closely with the owner and the general contractor. Adhering to the overall requirements and taking into account the specific conditions on site, they developed a thorough commissioning plan, carried out operations in a standardized manner, exercised strict control over the process, and fulfilled this trial operation task to high standards. Located in the Dananhai Petrochemical Industrial Zone in Huilei County, Jieyang City, Guangdong Province, this project covers an area of 953 hectares and has a total investment of 65.4 billion yuan. It is a petrochemical processing complex of world-class scale, and it represents the largest integrated petrochemical project in China that has been constructed with a single capital investment. The successful commissioning of Unit 3 provides a strong guarantee for the steam supply to various production units in Guangdong Petrochemical’s integrated refining and chemical processing project.
