In western Guizhou, there is such a “lake” – it is the largest freshwater lake in Guizhou and is as famous as Qinghai Lake and Dianchi Lake. Geologists have confirmed that Cao Hai is a limestone karst lake, and it is the earliest natural lake to form in Guizhou, with a history of development spanning over 200,000 years. Cao Hai was originally a mountainous basin with a sparse population and scattered villages. Later, due to severe floods, sediment blocked the drainage holes, preventing water from flowing away, and this led to the formation of a vast highland lake.
