Shaanxi Shaanxi Blower (Group) Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as “Shanxi Blower”), thanks to its blast furnace energy recovery system (BPRT), which utilizes the waste heat and pressure from blast furnace blowers for turbine power generation in a coaxial configuration, was awarded the Gold Prize for Innovative Green and Energy-Saving Products at the 2019 World Manufacturing Conference. Li Hongan, chairman of Shaanxi Gear Group, said that BPRT’s innovative three-machine coaxial drive technology increases the power recovered by more than 8% compared to TRT units used for recovering surplus pressure and heat from blast furnace gas; the recovered power accounts for 50% of the original drive power, and the electricity generation per ton of iron can reach 50 kWh/t, resulting in significant energy-saving and environmental protection benefits. In recent years, Shaanxi Gas Turbine has focused on the key issues of energy conservation and consumption reduction that hinder the development of the industry. It has pursued innovation in the field of new energy-saving and environmental protection industrial technologies, developing independently the application technology for coaxial units for recovering waste heat and pressure from metallurgical blast furnaces. This approach helps users reduce losses during energy conversion and improves efficiency. At present, this energy-saving and environmental protection technology and products have been widely applied in fields such as metallurgy and coal chemical industry. Based on similar technologies, more than 1,000 units have been used for the recovery of waste heat and pressure in process industries, as well as for power generation or driving turbine systems; these units have been exported to countries such as India, Indonesia, Vietnam, and Malaysia, becoming another hallmark of Chinese enterprises’ green manufacturing technologies under the Belt and Road Initiative. The reporter also learned that the total exhibition area of the 2019 World Manufacturing Conference was 61,000 square meters, divided into ten exhibition zones such as international manufacturing, intelligent manufacturing, and green manufacturing. Manufacturing enterprises from Shaanxi, represented by Shangdu, showcased the strength of Shaanxi’s manufacturing industry at this world-class event.

This is crucial for ensuring energy security, promoting energy conservation and environmental protection, and improving the efficiency of coal utilization. The selective and clean utilization of low-rank coal is also a development direction for the coal chemical industry that receives strong policy support.
In March 2015, the gas turbine-driven centrifugal pipeline compression units developed and produced by Shaanxi Gas Turbine won the bid for the \"Jingbian to Xi’an Natural Gas Pipeline Line 3 Project (Phase II)\\". It is an important part of the “Gasification of Shaanxi” project, and it is also a key initiative aimed at reducing coal-fired emissions, combating pollution and haze, and improving people’s livelihoods. Through careful design and precision manufacturing, SHANGU has achieved significant technical breakthroughs in the research, development, and manufacturing of large-scale centrifugal compressors in China, as evidenced by the gas-fired pipeline compression units it provided for the Jingxi Third Front natural gas transmission project. These units filled a gap in domestic gas turbine-driven technology, putting an end to the long-term reliance on imported compression units. Characterized by high efficiency, energy savings, and advanced technical features, they signify that China’s capabilities in equipment manufacturing, research and development, and innovation have reached international advanced levels. The project was officially put into operation in November 2016, significantly enhancing the natural gas supply capacity of the third pipeline in Jingxi, Shaanxi, and it has been operating well with excellent performance metrics.

The evaluation team unanimously agreed that the overall performance indicators of this unit are at the leading level in China, with key technical parameters such as compressor efficiency and operating range having reached the international advanced level. This represents the independent development of large-scale pipeline compressor technology and its subsequent manufacturing in our country. It not only signifies that Shangdu Power has broken through the foreign monopoly on the core technologies related to compressors for natural gas mainline and branch pipelines, thereby acquiring the capabilities to design, manufacture, test, and service such compressor units, but it also lays a solid foundation for advancing the localization of key equipment used in natural gas pipeline transportation in our country as well as for technological progress in this field. As a clean energy source, natural gas plays an important role in global energy consumption. It is understood that in 2017, China’s natural gas consumption was 237.3 billion cubic meters, representing a year-on-year increase of 15.3%. As one of the main means of transporting crude oil, refined products, and natural gas, oil and gas transmission pipelines play an important role in national infrastructure development. By the end of 2017, the total length of oil and gas pipelines in operation in China was approximately 133,100 kilometers. It is estimated that by the end of the 13th Five-Year Plan period, the total length of China’s long-distance oil and gas pipelines will exceed 160,000 kilometers. Experts explain that China’s natural gas mainline and branch line projects utilize high-pressure, large-diameter long-distance gas transmission pipelines. Generally, a compression station equipped with multiple high-power compressors is needed every 100 to 200 kilometers; through multi-stage pressure enhancement by these compressors, the frictional resistance during transmission is overcome, enabling the long-distance transport of natural gas.
