Starting from the north bank, it made its way through the riverbed and finally emerged successfully above ground. Thus, the Jiujiang Yangtze River Crossing Project, the most important control structure for the Yizheng-Jiujiang section of the pipeline network, was completed successfully. The employees of Xuzhou Shihua Pipeline Special Operations Co., Ltd., the pipeline company present, couldn’t help but high-five in celebration; the constant noise of the drilling machines at the construction site, which had been running 24/7 for over four months, finally ceased as well. The pipeline company took on the project for the Yizheng to Jiujiang section of the Chief Engineer Pipeline double line. The main route of this pipeline is roughly consistent with the Yizheng to Jiujiang section of the Yichang Pipeline, which was put into operation in 2006. The total length of the pipeline is 560 kilometers, and it passes through Jiangsu, Anhui, Hubei, and Jiangxi provinces. Once completed and put into operation, this dual-pipe line will effectively address the issue of insufficient crude oil processing capacity for Sinopec’s related refining enterprises in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River. The Jiujiang Yangtze River Crossing Project is a key component of the Yichang Pipeline double-track section running from Yizheng to Jiujiang; **relevant authorities require that it be completed before this year’s flood season. This project crosses the Yangtze River over a total length of 2,352 meters, and drilling commenced officially on January 15 this year. The employees of Xuzhou Shihua Pipeline Special Operations Co., Ltd., a company belonging to the pipeline industry, overcame difficulties such as passing through high-strength, long-distance conglomerate layers during the construction work. To this end, taking into account the characteristics of this project, the company developed a scientific and reasonable construction plan tailored to the specific conditions, successfully overcame various challenges, and completed the construction tasks successfully. Xuzhou Shihua Pipeline Special Operations Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of the pipeline company, possesses high expertise in the use of horizontal directional drilling technology for construction purposes. It was the first company in China to use this technology to drill through the Yangtze River. The company has been involved in the construction of various oil and gas pipelines that needed to pass through the Yangtze River, including those related to the Yonghuining pipeline, Yichang-Changsha pipeline, and Sichuan Gas to East China project. It has set numerous world records as well as new records for Chinese companies in the field of pipeline crossing projects. During the construction of the Jiujiang Yangtze River crossing project for the chief engineer’s pipeline double-track, the company once again set a new domestic record by using a single horizontal directional drill to traverse 1,900 meters through rock layers in a single operation. The completion of this project has removed the biggest construction challenge for the Yizhang–Jiujiang section of the Yichang Pipeline double-track project.
