Inner Mongolia Yitai’s new FTO-based C8 olefins production project has been approved! 2025-06-03 15:22:44 On May 28th, Inner Mongolia Yitai Chemical Co., Ltd.’s project for the separation and purification of high-carbon alpha olefins through FT synthesis on a scale of 10,000 tons was approved for implementation! Construction location: Hangjin Banner, Ordos City – Jintai Fine Chemical Park, Duguitala Industrial Park, Hangjin Banner, Ordos City, Inner Mongolia. Total investment: 569.9792 million yuan, of which self-funded amount is 569.9792 million yuan; bank loans applied for: 0 million yuan; other sources of funding: 0 million yuan. Planned construction period: from August 2025 to March 2027. Scale and scope of construction: This project will produce 28,200 tons of C8 olefins per year, with actual operating hours at 8,000 hours per year; the operating flexibility of the facility is 60%–110%. The project covers an area of approximately 135 mu, and it mainly involves the construction of a combined unit for the separation and purification of α-olefins. This unit is divided into five functional sections: single-carbon separation, adsorbent regeneration, extraction deoxygenation, alkene-olefin separation, and utility systems. The feed oil is separated in distillation towers to yield crude C8 olefins and C8 alkanes; the C8 olefins are further purified using extraction, adsorbent-based deoxygenation, and adsorption separation techniques to produce C8 α-olefin products that meet the required standards. On May 26, the 10,000-ton/year polyalpha-olefin (PAO) demonstration project of Inner Mongolia Yitai Hongcheng Chemical Co., Ltd. was approved for registration. Location of construction: Ordos City – Hangjin Banner – Hangjin Economic Development Zone. Total investment: 111.32 million yuan, of which self-funded amount is 111.32 million yuan; bank loans applied for: 0 million yuan; other sources of funding: 0 million yuan. Planned start and completion dates: August 2025 to April 2026. Scale and scope of construction: The project covers an area of approximately 54 mu, and it involves the production of 10,000 tons per year of polyα-olefin (PAO). Construction will take place in two phases; the first phase will have a production capacity of 5,000 tons per year of PAO. The production facilities included will be a PAO deoxygenation unit with an annual capacity of 7,718 tons, a PAO polymerization unit with an annual capacity of 5,000 tons, and a PAO hydrogenation unit with an annual capacity of 5,000 tons. In addition, corresponding infrastructure such as roads, power supply and lighting systems, communication facilities, environmental protection measures, water supply and drainage systems, and fire protection systems will be built, along with necessary production and auxiliary facilities. The production capacity in the second phase is 5,000 tons per year of polyalpha-olefin (PAO). On October 8, 2024, the first public announcement regarding the environmental impact assessment for the 10,000-ton per year FTO synthesis α-olefin separation and purification project was made by Inner Mongolia Yitai Chemical Co., Ltd. On July 23, 2023, the 1,000-ton-scale demonstration plant for the separation and purification of α-olefins via coal-based Fischer-Tropsch synthesis, developed by Inner Mongolia Yitai Group, was successfully commissioned in Ordos. This plant enabled the completion of the entire production process, allowing for the manufacture of high-purity C5-C9 mono-carbon α-olefins; the purity of these products reached the level suitable for polymerization, with some parameters even exceeding those of imported products. This achievement filled the gap in China’s ability to produce high-end α-olefins on a commercial scale.
