Sinopec **builds 2 new electrolysis units!** New types of electrolyzers, such as those with a capacity of 3000 Nm³/h, are planned to be used. Recently, a public notice was issued regarding the environmental impact assessment report for the industrial application demonstration project of these new electrolyzers by Sinopec Xinxing Xinjiang Green Hydrogen Energy Co., Ltd. The document states that the industrial application demonstration project for new-type electrolyzers by Sinopec Xinxing Xinjiang Green Hydrogen Energy Co., Ltd. is located on the south side of Fuyang Road, at the intersection of Fuyang Road and Jing Si Road in the Economic and Technological Development Zone; there is available land within the existing factory complex. The construction unit is Sinopec Xinxing Xinjiang Green Hydrogen New Energy Co., Ltd. Construction content and scale: 2 new electrolysis units to be built ; Among them, one testing station will be built using thyristor-powered supplies, capable of testing new-type electrolyzers with a capacity of 3000 Nm³/h or 2000 Nm³/h ; 1 station equipped with an IGBT power supply, suitable for coupled testing of a 2000 Nm³/h square electrolyzer and a 500 Nm³/h PEM hydrogen production system. As well as the accompanying utility connection pipes, automatic control systems, electrical equipment, gas collection pipes, etc. It is understood that Sinopec Xinxing Xinjiang Green Hydrogen New Energy Co., Ltd. was established in 2021. It is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Sinopec Group Xinxing Petroleum Co., Ltd. (referred to as Xinxing Company). Xinxing Company adheres to the development of green hydrogen and actively focuses on two areas: green hydrogen refining and green hydrogen-based transportation, with an emphasis on large-scale projects for producing hydrogen using renewable energy sources. Xingxing Company makes full use of the advantages within the Sinopec system to develop new energy bases that combine heat, hydrogen, wind, solar power, and storage technologies, thereby contributing to the achievement of the \"carbon peak and carbon neutrality\" goals as well as Sinopec’s aim of becoming the leading hydrogen energy company in the country. Previously, Xingxing Company took the lead in building a **green hydrogen demonstration project in Xinjiang. The total investment in this project is nearly 3 billion yuan. The project utilizes local solar energy to produce green hydrogen through direct water electrolysis powered by photovoltaic generation. It includes a 300-megawatt photovoltaic power plant (with an annual electricity output of 618 million kWh), a hydrogen production facility capable of producing 20,000 tons of hydrogen per year via water electrolysis, 210,000 cubic meters of hydrogen storage tanks, and hydrogen transmission pipelines with a capacity of 28,000 cubic meters per hour. The green hydrogen produced is delivered via pipelines to the Tahe Refining and Chemical Company to replace natural gas in hydrogen production. Construction of the project began in November 2021; hydrogen production started in June 2023, and the facility went into full operation in August of the same year after the associated photovoltaic power plant was connected to the grid at full capacity. As of September 2025, it has been operating safely and steadily for over 800 days, delivering a total of 14,900 tons of green hydrogen to the Tahe Refining and Chemical Complex; once at full capacity, it is expected to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 485,000 tons per year. Building on the \"green hydrogen + refining\" model, the project has expanded its application scenarios, resulting in a total of 332 tons of green hydrogen being blended into residential natural gas.
