Environmental impact assessment approved for Henan Jinkong Tianqing’s 60,000-ton hydrogen purification project

In January 2026, the Jiaozuo Ecology and Environment Bureau issued a public notice regarding its approval of the environmental impact assessment document for the first phase of Henan Jinkong Tianqing Coal Chemical Co., Ltd.’s project aimed at producing 60,000 tons of hydrogen per year (with an output of 30,000 tons). In the first phase of the hydrogen purification project, an additional pressure swing adsorption (PSA) unit for hydrogen production has been installed; the parameters of the existing crude gas shift process have been adjusted to generate more hydrogen, and the purified gas from the shift process is then subjected to pressure swing adsorption purification, resulting in an annual production of 30,000 tons of hydrogen with a purity of 99.9%. Henan Jinmei Tianqing Coal Chemical uses Lurgi furnace pressurized gasification, low-temperature methanol washing, methanation, liquid nitrogen washing, Casali low-pressure ammonia synthesis, and CO2 stripping urea production technology to manufacture 300,000 tons of synthetic ammonia, 520,000 tons of urea, and 300 million cubic meters of natural gas. Put into operation in 2015. Among them, the gasification section consists of 6 Lurgi reactors, with 5 in operation and 1 as a backup. In November 2020, Jinmei Tianqing added another JM-S furnace, which became Furnace No. 7. Thereafter, Tianqing Company successively upgraded Units 1#, 2#, and 3# of the gasification furnaces in accordance with the JM-S process. The technical upgrades were completed and put into operation in 2022, 2023, and 2024 respectively.
