Construction of Ningxia Energy Chemical Carbon Dioxide Mineralization Project begins

On March 27, Ningxia Energy Chemical Company held a kick-off meeting for the 100,000 tons per year industrial demonstration project for the chemical chain mineralization of carbon dioxide, marking the entry of the project into its implementation phase. 　　This project is a key initiative for Ningxia Energy Chemical to implement the company’s 15th Five-Year Development Plan. The project utilizes the carbon dioxide chemical chain mineralization and long-term stable carbon sequestration technology jointly developed by Sinopec and Yuanchu Technology. Using carbon dioxide from the exhaust gases of coal-to-methanol plants and calcium carbide slag generated by acetylene production plants as raw materials, industrial-grade calcium carbonate and nanoscale calcium carbonate products are produced through wet indirect mineralization reactions. Once the project is in operation, it will be able to capture and utilize 100,000 tons of carbon dioxide per year, while consuming approximately 260,000 tons of solid waste in the form of calcium carbide slag; thus it offers both environmental and economic benefits.
