To further advance the green and low-carbon transition, the organic solvent recycling project carried out in collaboration between the Changshou Economic and Technological Development Zone in Chongqing and the Suez Group was officially launched recently. This project is an important initiative by Changshou District to put into practice the concept that \"lucid waters and lush mountains are invaluable assets\" and to advance the development of a \"waste-free city\". It will further improve the regional environmental protection system, thereby providing green momentum for high-quality development. It is reported that the first phase of this project is planned to handle 30,000 tons of waste organic solvents per year. It is expected to be completed and put into operation by the end of 2027. This will help resolve the issue of handling industrial hazardous waste in the region, assist the Changshou Economic Development Zone in maintaining its status as a \"waste-free zone,\" and also build upon the environmental cooperation framework established by the Suez Group in Changshou over the past 25 years. As a **Grade A green industrial park and a demonstration park for circular economy, in recent years the key industries in Changshou Economic Development Zone have included natural gas chemicals and new materials, resulting in an urgent need to handle waste organic solvents. This project adopts a closed-loop model of \"collection–renewal–reuse\"; through advanced purification technologies, waste organic solvents with hazardous properties are transformed into reusable resources that meet industrial standards, thus truly turning waste into treasure. Upon completion, the project will yield significant environmental and economic benefits; it will enable enterprises to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 36,000 tons per year. This not only helps to prevent liquid hazardous waste from contaminating soil and groundwater but also reduces the need for mining natural resources, thereby lowering the companies’ raw material costs. It aligns with Changshou District’s goal of achieving sustainable green development through a continuous reduction in energy consumption per unit of GDP.
