Discussion on the use of pitot tube flow meters

Regarding the application scope of pitot tube flow meters, it’s true that the density of the process parameters in our company is difficult to determine, as everything is gas and its density is hard to measure; our main goal is simply to determine the flow rate. We’re not sure whether pitot tube flow meters would work for this purpose. If they do, we’d like to know if you can recommend some manufacturers that produce reliable pitot tube flow meters.
I have not used pitot tube flow meters, so I’m not sure how effective they are. But for measuring gases, if there are no impurities present, I would recommend using an orifice plate along with a differential pressure transmitter; temperature and pressure compensation can be handled by the internal modules of the DCS system. It is sufficient to have online measurements of temperature and pressure at that flow point.
