Under what circumstances is a horizontal installation chosen for centrifugal pumps? Under what circumstances should a vertical installation be chosen?
It should be determined by the process conditions
All those I’ve seen are horizontal; are vertical ones generally installed in locations with limited space?
This is related to the process conditions; once those conditions are known, the pump manufacturer selects the appropriate model based on parameters such as the net positive suction head, and that determines whether the pump will be vertical or horizontal
Apart from pipeline pumps and the like, they are generally installed horizontally, unless space is limited; in such cases maintenance becomes difficult. It is also important to ensure that the inlet faces upward to prevent cavitation
What I’ve seen is that high-speed pumps and submersible pumps are vertical.
It is determined by the manufacturing process; generally, it is the design institute that specifies it for the manufacturer
The two vertical pumps I have seen are both pipeline pumps.
Based on the conditions of the water intake reservoir and requirements such as equipment maintenance, the most critical factor is equipment selection.
