What is the flow rate of the oil in the pipeline, and how long will it take to complete the flow through the system? For diesel fuel that has been fractionated, by adjusting the extraction temperature and waiting for a certain period of time before taking a sample, it is possible to determine the distillation range of this diesel fuel. Simply put, it is sufficient to use the volume of the entire process divided by the volumetric flow rate of diesel; approximate calculations are possible, but accurate calculations are not feasible, as oils are in a mixed state, similar to a blend, so the accuracy is not very high.
Actually, what was said above is already very precise. Even if you calculate the volume of the pipeline, it’s not possible to guarantee the exact volume quality. As mentioned earlier, diesel is a liquid; it doesn’t move forward as an unqualified product right after coming out of the tower. Instead, it mixes with the oil that’s already there after exiting the tower. Therefore, in daily production, it’s necessary to make judgments and gain experience, determining based on the actual conditions of one’s facility how much flow rate and how much time are required to completely replace the unqualified oil with proper oil.
Here’s a rough estimate; it hasn’t been calculated precisely. With 900,000 units of catalyst, sampling of crude gasoline can generally be carried out after the temperature at the top of the tower has stabilized for 30 minutes. Light diesel also takes roughly 30 minutes, while regular gasoline requires about 1 hour!
