Dear sea friends, here’s the issue: for a 16-meter-high concrete floor in a project, supports are needed to hold two steam pipes, DN800 and DN500, running side by side. The temperature is 110±2°C, the pressure is 0.14 MPa, the length of the pipes is 65 meters, and the height of the pipe supports is 8 meters. The floor has been completed, but the embedments for the pipe rack foundation have not been installed. What should be done in this situation? Can it be fixed using expansion bolts? Is there any other better way?
Expansion bolts should be fine as long as they have sufficient strength.
If it’s over 2 meters, the pipeline cannot be installed; it’s best to have a structural engineer do the calculations.
The pipe is so large, and it needs to be supported at such a high height (I don’t understand why it needs to be supported 8 meters high!) What kind of steel structure can withstand it? ), I don’t think expansion bolts are a good option; even if they are anchored to the lower beams, it can still be dangerous. Why isn’t a hanger used at such a high height? It won’t be difficult to hang it on the upper level, of course, provided that there is an upper level available. The load on this pipe rack is not small; it should be submitted to the structural engineers for calculation to determine whether the existing structure can handle it. If not, measures need to be taken to reinforce it. Don’t do it rashly; it will cause problems if something goes wrong. It’s that high.
Expansion bolts probably won’t work; given the large diameter of the steam pipes, the loads are quite high. Additionally, the thermal stresses generated by the pipes can exert axial forces on the pipe supports. Your floor design doesn’t take these loads into account, so it’s best to have the structural engineers verify this.
In such cases, we usually submit it to the structural engineering team for support. The structure provides the support; the piping department constructs the pipe racks on the support surface provided by the structure, following standard practices. Of course, it is the piping department that determines the height of this support surface.
