This reflects the weaknesses and strengths of human nature – qualities that everyone has, such as jealousy and compassion

Even if ten people are chosen, the same relationship holds between the top two, because many people subconsciously think in this way – being second is not good; even though in many cases it’s clear that there’s no real difference between first and second.
Competitiveness and vanity turn the first and second places into rivals, but this can motivate one to unleash their full potential, which is a good thing in that sense. And the two worst ones were ignored, becoming friends who understood each other’s plight.

Progress is possible only through competition. I am willing to be second; having a goal to chase ahead keeps me from feeling lost. I just hope the first place holder is good enough to motivate me to become better
