It’s a long-standing problem; contact the electrodialysis desalination manufacturers or consider switching to a different demulsifier, etc.
We can only consider maintaining a relatively high boundary value; in fact, this is a contradiction in itself – either the electrodialysis desalination effect is poor but the water produced meets the standards, or the desalination effect is good but the water contains oil. Finding the midpoint is indeed quite troublesome; if there is significant pressure related to environmental concerns, it would be better to consider using a separate water separation tank and to check the oil levels in stages.
During the electric desalination water separation process, the viscosity of the crude oil prevents the level gauge in the electric desalination tank from functioning properly, which results in oil being present in the separated water. Under normal conditions, the amount of oil in such water is around 100 parts per million, and it can be sent directly to the wastewater treatment plant. However, when there are fluctuations in the water separation process, a higher percentage of oil may end up in the water. We have conducted pilot tests on electric desalination water separation at Xi’an Petrochemical, Changqing Petrochemical, Jingmen Petrochemical, and Dagang Petrochemical.
