Why is walnut shell filter media hydrophilic and oleophobic?

While reviewing the information, I found that walnut shell filter media are hydrophilic and oleophobic. Theoretically, shouldn’t the better the oleophilic and oleophobic properties be, the higher the oil removal rate and the better the filtering efficiency? ? Experts, please explain! ! ! !
What is the difference between reverse use and forward use?
Walnut shell filter media are primarily used to remove ordinary floating oils and wastewater with low oil concentrations. Thanks to its hydrophilic and lipophobic properties, it can trap most of the oils. It is precisely this property that makes its backwashing and regeneration processes much more efficient than those of other filter media
