Innovative start-up and shutdown method for the coal-based hydrogen production unit at Maoming Petrochemical

On June 15, 2015, the third series of gasifiers in Maoming Petrochemical’s coal-to-hydrogen plant was successfully fed with feedstock. After adjustments were made, a seamless switch from the operating first series of gasifiers to the third series was achieved, and the plant maintained stable pressure and flow rates in the hydrogen supply to the pipeline network throughout the process. Since the coal-to-hydrogen unit at Maoming Petrochemical’s refining division began operations last year, all three gasification furnaces have been operated in strict accordance with the equipment’s operational requirements. After 60 days of operation, they must be shut down for inspections of key components such as the coal slurry nozzles and furnace bricks, in order to ensure the safe operation of the equipment. In the past, the gasification furnace of the plant was started and stopped following a \"stop first, then start\" sequence, during which the plant operated with a single furnace at high load for a period of time.
