On liquid seals in π-tube and U-tube configurations

Most of those I’ve seen are U-shaped tube liquid seals, but there are also π-shaped tube liquid seals. What is the specifics of these π-shaped tubes? What are the differences between them, and when should π-shaped tubes be used?
A liquid seal is formed; on the surface, it appears to be a ‘pai’ shape, but in reality it is still a ‘U’ shape.
It is necessary to maintain a certain liquid level in the water tank to ensure that only water can flow out and no steam. One needs to look at the positive U-tube formed between the vertical pipe on one side of the inverted U-tube and the water tank. At the top of a normal inverted U-tube, there should also be a siphon tube connecting to the gas phase of the water tank.
