The maximum allowable operating pressure refers to the pipeline, right? The maximum allowable working pressure refers to the equipment, right? Let’s discuss it – what’s the difference?
Oh, this definition was stated in API 14C
The maximum allowable operating pressure is lower than the maximum allowable working pressure
I feel that these two concepts convey the same meaning – operational/work pressure refers to the normal operating pressure during the process. Is it really necessary to use such an unclear definition in order to distinguish between pipelines and containers? There is no evidence suggesting that the operation of a medium in a pipeline constitutes operation, while its operation in a device or container constitutes work.
These two mean the same thing; don’t overthink it. . .
From a production perspective, the maximum allowable operating pressure and the maximum allowable working pressure are not the same; the maximum allowable operating pressure must be less than or equal to the maximum allowable working pressure, and it generally does not exceed this value.
Generally, these two words mean the same thing, unless a specific company/factory has a special definition to make a distinction.
It should mean the same thing; it doesn’t distinguish between pressure vessels and pressure pipelines, right?

In the Chinese version of API 14C: Maximum Allowable Operation Pressure (Ma*mun Allowable Operation Pressure): The highest operating pressure permitted at any point in the pipeline system under normal flow or stationary conditions. Maximum Allowable Working Pressure (Ma*mun Allowable Working Pressure): The highest operating pressure permitted at any point within the equipment, excluding the piping system, under normal operation or at rest.
