For the liquefied gas transfer pumps in our factory, which are used to transport liquefied gas to the caustic washing tanks, a check valve is installed on the pump outlet pipeline; however, backflow still occurs. Therefore, the workshop has decided to add an additional quick-shut off valve that is linked to the pressure at the pump outlet. The discharge is automatically cut off when the pressure at the pump outlet suddenly decreases. What are the disadvantages of this? Will it be harmful? If it’s not linked and reverses instantly, human intervention cannot control it in time, making the installation pointless. Could someone give me some advice?
I don’t understand. A low pressure at the pump outlet should indicate a problem with the pump, right? What other factors could cause a low outlet pressure? What does \"backflow\" mean? Where does it flow back to? Is the check valve not working?
Add another quick shut-off valve, linked to the pump outlet pressure.keyi
If the outlet pressure of the centrifugal pump is low, it’s okay; but if the outlet pressure is high, it’s best to close it gradually. Closing it suddenly will cause a sudden change in the direction of the fluid flow, resulting in strong shocks that increase vibration at the pump’s outlet.
The decision should be based on the flow rate and pressure at the pump outlet; in situations with high flow rates and high pressures, the operation of the shut-off valve can cause significant pipe vibration, which can also affect the pump itself
Should you consider replacing it with a better-quality check valve?
A cut-off protection is installed in the electrical circuit; fluctuations in the outlet pressure indicate that there is insufficient liquid supply at the inlet or that too much air is present, resulting in poor discharge. In such cases, the motor current also experiences unstable fluctuations. The cut-off protection operates by using these current fluctuations as a parameter for regulation. A shut-off valve should be installed at the outlet of the centrifugal pump to enable adjustment. This can be found in the pump operation manual.
If a one-way valve is damaged, it should be replaced promptly
The backflow issue should be addressed first; after all, cutting off the supply urgently is not the best solution.
