For a shell-and-tube evaporator, the heat transfer fluid is in the tube side while the material to be evaporated is in the shell side. The operating pressure of this material is around 0.2 MPa under positive pressure. It is necessary to measure and control the liquid level of the material being evaporated; considering that this level is not fixed and may change in real time as the material evaporates, magnetic strain gauge and magnetic flap level gauges have been used so far – they are reasonably priced but offer only average performance. Guided wave radar has also been employed, providing good performance but at an unacceptably high cost. Are there any other level measurement devices that offer a good cost-performance ratio?
A differential pressure transmitter can also be considered. I still personally recommend using radar. Someone once told me about using ultrasound, and even said they had succeeded in making modifications using it.
The tube bank refers to the channels through which the fluid flows within the heat exchanger and the parts that are connected to them. The shell side refers to the channel through which the fluid flows outside the heat exchange tubes and the parts that are connected to them.
For media with large density variations, guided wave radar offers the most significant advantages.

It is recommended to use guided wave radar level gauges; nowadays, such radar devices are not as expensive as the original poster thought. Our company has been specializing in the production of radar level gauges for ten years, offering direct sales from the manufacturer. Feel free to contact me if you need any products
In situations where the density of the material medium varies, it is better to use radar
The good ones that have been used are MAGNETROL models, and there are basically no false alarms
Differential pressure transmitters could be considered; they are affordable
Ask Baidu; this brand is really great!
Are you in the instrumentation field? Magnetrol is a brand; it’s American-made, of very good quality, but the price is high
