How is the range of a vibration sensor determined?

I’m new to the vibration industry and don’t know how the range of sensors is determined. For example, for eddy current sensors, how do I decide whether to use a 8MM or 11MM model? And what frequency should be used for speed sensors? I hope someone with experience can give me some guidance
Depending on the required range: 8MM generally has a linear region of 2MM, while 11MM has a linear region of 4MM
