Our electrolyte consists of acids and salts; we refer to the diaphragm electrolyzers used in chlor-alkali plants. Of course, since there is no suitable diaphragm available and such strict requirements are not necessary, we use filter cloth as a diaphragm. There is currently this problem: whenever we stop the tank, it becomes very difficult to restart it, as the current density does not reach 100 A/square meter – it’s actually in the single digits. However, in the laboratory it’s completely normal; reaching 1000 A/square meter happens in an instant. I would like to ask the experts: what exactly is the cause of this? At present, a fault in the frequency conversion cabinet can be basically ruled out, as well as any issues with the electrolyte; the coating is also new.
What are the characteristics exhibited by the cell when the current density is still below 100 A/square meter, such as high cell voltage or high cell temperature? A clear description is needed in order to conduct an analysis
OP, how do you keep the electrolyzer safe when parking it? The current cannot increase; it might be because the diaphragm made of filter fabric has dried out, resulting in a reduced permeability. This could be related to the way you store it when the machine is not in use. Another thing to consider is the impact of the material itself of the filter cloth. In fact, the diaphragm for diaphragm electrolyzers is readily available, and not much investment is required for the adsorption process; a simple tank and a vacuum pump are sufficient. So I suggest that the original poster use a normal diaphragm for production in the electrolyzer.
