Could someone explain briefly and clearly the relationship between steam and power generation? :)
Only high-temperature, high-pressure steam, with a high enthalpy value, expands to do work in the turbine; the waste steam is then discharged, and the turbine drives the generator to rotate, generating alternating current. Steam (thermal energy) --> Turbine (mechanical energy) --> Generator (electrical energy)
In refineries, a large amount of steam is generated as a by-product of the operations; it must be somehow utilized. Besides being used for heating, it can be used with compressors or to generate electricity.
Could you explain their relationship to each other? For example, how many tons of steam are required to generate 1 unit of electricity (what are the requirements regarding the quality of the steam, etc.)
