Hello everyone. I have a single-stage centrifugal pump here, which was imported from the pool next to the pump room. During testing, abnormal noises were heard at the inlet flanges of the pump as well as at the impeller; these noises were regular in pattern. It is likely that gas or some debris is present. Let’s discuss – what could be the cause?
There might be debris stuck there, or friction between the impeller and the pump casing; taking it apart for inspection will reveal the cause
It’s difficult to determine the reason from this description; you can check the user manual, as it should contain information on any abnormal phenomena and their causes, which you can use as a reference.
Is the unusual noise you mentioned loud? Also, at the time when the abnormal noise was heard, was the pump’s outlet open or closed? Furthermore, could you use a clamp meter to check the pump’s current to see if it was stable? You just said that the range of abnormal noises is too wide, so it’s impossible to give you a definite answer
The outlet pressure, flow rate, motor current, and all vibration values are within normal ranges; the water pump should be functioning properly. The sound coming from the pump is due to the friction between the water and the pump body.
There are abnormal noises at the inlet flanges and the impeller of the water pump; these noises are regular in pattern, and it is likely a mechanical fault
It would be best to check the instructions
The outlet valve is open normally, and all other currents are normal
Also, what kind of sound is the unusual noise you mentioned, and how loud is it? Also, is this pump new or old? Is there a filter at the pump inlet as well? Has the inlet pipeline been installed, before or after the filter? Also, is the pump body vibrating severely? Are all the pressure parameters normal? And what is the diameter of the pipelines at the pump’s inlet and outlet?
There is a continuous, regular humming sound at the water pump inlet and at the impeller; the noise isn’t very loud. It’s a new pump, part of a new project, with all new pipes, and no filters are present
Is there significant fluctuation in the outlet pressure gauge and current? If there are fluctuations, it is likely cavitation; if not, there might be debris present
