Besides being used for adjusting timers in hand-held controllers, what other purposes does the Hart protocol serve? I remember that there was also something like the HART protocol in the DCS system of the central control unit; I’m not sure what its purpose was.
HART instruments can provide safety functions; currently, they are mainly used to offer diagnostic capabilities below 4 mA and above 20 mA, to detect abnormal conditions of the instrument, thereby achieving a higher level of safety. Once digital instruments completely replace analog ones, HART might disappear.
HART communication itself has nothing to do with safety levels. Meters with Hart functionality not only facilitate adjustment of settings via the handheld controller, but also enable remote calibration and diagnosis of all intelligent meters throughout the plant or facility through the AMS system. It provides a database of meters, helping to identify those in a \"sub-healthy\" state. Based on the status of the meters displayed by the AMS system, it makes it easier to determine what spare parts are needed. AMS is an instrument management system, provided that the DCS cards must be smart cards.
