For a conveying medium that is a mixture of paraffin oil and clay, the pump inlet can easily get clogged, resulting in the pump running dry. Furthermore, when wax-white soil enters the sealed surface, it will wear down that surface, leading to seal failure. This leads to frequent maintenance tasks; could anyone with experience give some advice on what improvements can be made to this type of pump?
I’m not sure what pump was used before; since the solid content is high, it is recommended to use a turbine-type centrifugal pump, as it is less prone to clogging. As for mechanical seal wear, centrifugal pumps equipped with a flushing system for the mechanical seal can be used. It is best to contact the manufacturer for customization.

If it’s a centrifugal pump, could you try using a screw pump instead?
Double-end face sealing is costly, and this is often not taken into consideration. High-temperature and high-pressure pumps are commonly used. Regarding the medium you mentioned as having an impact, then choose paraffin oil as the flushing fluid; it is compatible with the pump medium and will not cause any issues.
This pump is a single-stage oil transfer pump: 65AYU100×2. Flow rate: 23; temperature: 420°; head: 178. The medium handled is wax, and the sealing type is DBM65 hard-to-hard sealing. I would appreciate advice on how to make improvements to the process and equipment in order to reduce the frequency of maintenance
If it is caused by clogging and wear due to kaolin, it is recommended to install a filter at the inlet with a filtration area of 5μm; cleaning the filter in this way will suffice. If funds permit, an automatic backwash function can be installed
1. Install a quick-connection filter or sedimentation tank in front of the pump to address the issue of water-containing raw materials causing clogging of the filters due to solidification. 2. Check whether the pump selection is appropriate; if the actual flow rate of the pump is too low, appropriately reduce the diameter of the pump’s impeller to adjust its flow rate. 3. Choose suitable materials for the pump casing and impeller that offer good resistance to cavitation, thereby enhancing the pump’s resistance to cavitation and erosion. 4. The operators must strictly follow the process specifications, keeping the amount of clay added as low as possible while avoiding any excess; efforts should be made to minimize the wear on the clay particles.
