What are the appropriate procedures for dealing with leaks in the upper covers of the selective hydrogenation reactor used for gasoline hydrogenation and the hydrodesulfurization reactor? (Please describe them in order of operation.) Please provide the specific steps! Thank you
First, the pressure needs to be released, slowly, and then contact the construction team to tighten it up. Also, make sure there’s no fire; if a fire starts, use steam as a cover. If the situation gets out of control, stop operations immediately
Emergency shutdown is required to relieve pressure and lower the system pressure. Fires at the reactor’s inlet and outlet must be addressed promptly, as otherwise the fire can spread more easily, leading to greater leaks.
First, assess the extent of the leakage and maintain stable system pressure to avoid significant fluctuations. Then have the security personnel carry out tightening procedures; if it’s an octagonal gasket, it’s best to use specialized tools for tightening. This process involves risks, so it depends on the experience of your security personnel. If the degree of leakage is significant, it is sufficient to follow the emergency shutdown procedures; however, it is important to control the rate of pressure release and cooling. If there is high-pressure nitrogen in the system, it is recommended to introduce it in advance for displacement in order to ensure safety, before proceeding with replacing the gaskets
As a supplementary point, the hydrogenation pressure for gasoline is around 2.0 megapascals; in the event of a leak, the amount of hydrogen released is generally not large. The temperature is not very high either, so ignition is less likely to occur. The top part of the reactor usually has good ventilation, so there is no accumulation of hydrogen – it’s not as serious as you might think. I have dealt with cases where there was a leak and fire in a four-way reverse helmet; I used a small amount of nitrogen to purge the leaking area. Since there was no wind at that time, I didn’t proceed with purging and instead left it under the supervision of the fire fighters. First, relieve the pressure, while covering the area with steam. If the leakage is severe, relieve the pressure completely, replace it with nitrogen, secure the leaky area, and then gradually increase the pressure to the operating level (for both nitrogen and hydrogen), checking to see if there is still any leakage. If the leakage amount is small, observe during the pressure relief process whether the leak site is still leaking; if no leakage occurs at that location, stop the pressure relief, tighten it, and then gradually increase the pressure to the operating pressure (for nitrogen and hydrogen) to check for any remaining leaks.
