Our factory has a Roots blower, and the air seal between the rotor at the synchronous gear end and the bearings is a skeleton oil seal; two such skeleton oil seals are used, which serve both to seal out air and to prevent oil leakage. There is also a spacer ring between the two seals, and grease can be poured into this spacer ring from the outside as well. How should these two oil seals be assembled?

The lip of the skeleton oil seal should face the grease; generally, the lip of a skeleton oil seal faces the side with the lubricating oil.
I believe the mouth side should point toward the high-pressure side or the lubricating oil side, so that the skeleton oil seal can lock itself in place to provide sealing.

Both should face the direction of the lubricating oil. Our factory also has such Roots blowers, which break down frequently. According to the principles, they should be arranged back to back; however, doing so is very difficult and can easily damage the oil seals. You might try having the lip edges of both oil seals face the direction of the lubricating oil.
We have our Roots blowers maintained at the manufacturer’s facility; performing maintenance on them ourselves is complicated due to the lack of specialized equipment and parts, so it is recommended that the owner send them to the manufacturer.
I suggest you provide the cross-sectional view; that will make it clear at a glance. The information provided is insufficient, and sometimes the solutions given to you may not be the best ones!
I just finished repairing one unit, and it’s more or less as I told you. The drawings specify that all four lip edges should face inward, in order to seal out air. My former bosses have also tried various installation methods such as back-to-back arrangements, but now that we have the drawings, if it’s difficult to install the skeleton oil seals, we can create a special tool for that purpose
