During the commissioning phase of the A/O process, river water is used as the water for commissioning, and nutrient agents are added to supplement COD, ammonia nitrogen, and phosphorus. The water in the river channel is yellow. It has been under testing for 7 days now, and the test results show normal values; however, after the water samples are allowed to settle, the supernatant remains yellow. In the flocculation and precipitation experiment, the color of the supernatant lightened, becoming only slightly yellow. Does this indicate that this color can be treated biochemically? After all, sludge has an adsorptive property. . .

Can pre- biochemical flocculation and precipitation remove the color? If this is not possible, it only indicates that the color has been biologically oxidized and broken down into an insoluble form.
The river water referred to by the poster is likely water containing some suspended sediment; it is the particles of this sediment that may give the water a yellowish appearance. Simple sedimentation may also cause the color to lighten, but if flocculation is carried out, a large amount of sediment, especially fine-grained sediment, can be removed along with it through flocculation, resulting in an even lighter color of the water. Generally, large amounts of colored substances do not dissolve in river water; its apparent color is primarily due to the natural light scattered by suspended particles in the water. The water can be finely filtered, and the filtered water can then be examined with the naked eye to determine if it has any color.
