Do orifice plate flow meters work for gases and liquids? If it is divided, will a liquid orifice flow meter show a reading when measuring gas?
The orifice flow meter is related to the density of the medium.
When using orifice plates to measure gases and liquids, the installation method differs: for gases, the transmitter must be placed above the orifice plate, while for liquids, the transmitter should be below it. As for what “display” means, I simply don’t understand it at all.
I mean, will it show the traffic?
Orifice plate flowmeters are not designed to distinguish between gases and liquids; they can measure both. The measurement performed by an orifice plate flowmeter is related to the density of the medium. Since the densities of gases and liquids differ, they cannot be measured using the same device, otherwise the readings will be incorrect.
Although they are all orifice plate flow meters, their purpose is determined at the design stage; for example, some are used to measure gases while others are used to measure liquids. The two flowmeters will have different calculation sheets; if they are used together, a quantity indication should be available, but it will certainly not be accurate. If a change is desired, it is necessary to prepare a new calculation sheet based on the actual parameters on site. Once the new calculation sheet is available, it should be compared with the previous one, and then a decision can be made as to whether it is feasible to use the component in the new location.
Orifice plate measurement is related to the density and viscosity of the medium, whereas density and viscosity are related to temperature, pressure, and flow rate. Therefore, orifice plates are designed specifically for a given medium and operating conditions; any changes in these factors can affect the measurement results. The properties of gases and liquids differ significantly, making it difficult to use one instead of the other.

It does show the values, but the results shown have nothing to do with the values I want to measure, and it’s also not possible to determine what the error is. Because the inner diameter of each orifice plate is calculated based on its specific process conditions, such as differential pressure, medium density, flow rate, viscosity, compressibility index, etc., the results obtained under two completely different process conditions are not really related to each other.
