When a centrifugal pump is operating normally and the standby pump is started, as the outlet valve of the standby pump opens, how does the outlet pressure of the pump that is operating normally change, and how does the current change? When two pumps are connected in parallel, what is the head relative to their individual heads?
With the total export flow remaining essentially unchanged, after starting the backup pump, the outlet pressure of the originally operating pump increases, the current decreases, and the head increases.
It depends on the outlet traffic; generally, the current of the standby pump will decrease. The pressure will increase.
As pressure increases, current decreases, and the total head increases!
Undoubtedly, the outlet pressure of a normal pump will increase (due to increased pipeline resistance and higher flow rates), while the current will decrease (because the flow rate is reduced, and the power required to increase the head is less than the power required to maintain the mass flow rate). When two pumps are connected in parallel, the final head depends on your operating conditions……
