I’m a recent undergraduate, and my first job after graduation was in the membrane technology field. I really like this industry and believe it has great prospects for development. I’ve been trying to gather various information on my own, but I lack systematic guidance as well as a specialized platform. I’m seeking help from everyone, and I hope more people can provide resources and information in this area
What does membrane separation encompass? What do you do specifically? Commonly used methods include microfiltration, ultrafiltration, nanofiltration, reverse osmosis, diffusion dialysis, electrodialysis, bipolar membrane electrodialysis, gas permeation (gas membrane separation), pervaporation, steam permeation, supported liquid membranes, supported gas membranes, membrane distillation, membrane absorption, membrane extraction, and membrane desorption.
There are many manufacturers of membranes in China; notable ones include Bishuiyuan and Membrane Sky. However, many wealthier property owners opt for membranes from abroad, such as those from Dow, Asahi Kasei, GE, Hydranautics, and so on. Most membrane manufacturers provide membrane technology manuals; by studying these manuals, one can gain an understanding of membranes. Of course, it is also necessary to learn more practical knowledge and experience through actual projects.
My main work at the moment is in the fields of ultrafiltration and nanofiltration; basic data have been obtained through laboratory tests, and there are currently two projects in the pilot stage
May I ask a side question? What majors are generally related to membrane technology? .
It generally falls under environmental engineering, I majored in chemical engineering; some universities include membrane technology in their courses on wastewater treatment, but it’s only covered in an overview manner
I had previously seen Tao’s manual on membrane technology; the company we work for now also uses ceramic membranes from an American company, and there are two sets of systems in the pilot stage
Those who work on membrane materials are generally involved in polymer or materials research. Those who produce membranes are from applied chemistry, polymer science, or chemical engineering. To manufacture membrane modules, materials as well as experts in polymers, chemistry, and chemical engineering are required. It is chemists who are responsible for optimizing and designing the membrane process. Installation and commissioning are related to chemical engineering and chemical processing machinery. It involves self-control, of course. . . . As for environmental protection, it is merely one application area of membrane technology. Our company produces four types of membranes and membrane equipment (special nanofiltration membranes, vapor permeation membranes, membranes for membrane distillation, and membranes for aqueous phase ammonia removal), and also undertakes engineering projects. The company has 42 graduates with a bachelor’s degree or higher in science and engineering, and none of them are majoring in environmental protection.
