A safety valve is installed on the outlet pipeline of the metering pump, with the outlet of the safety valve returning to the pump inlet. How is the discharge capacity of this safety valve generally determined? What about the setting pressure of the safety valve? I consulted a metering pump manufacturer, and the response was that the discharge volume of the safety valve should be ≥ 10% of the pump’s maximum flow rate ； The relief valve discharge pressure is ≥ 110% of the pump’s outlet pressure. Is this reasonable? ?
I think it’s reasonable to set it this way. The first reason is that a certain margin needs to be left for the reciprocating pump, and the second reason is based on the value of 20570.

Is the discharge volume a bit less than 10% of the maximum flow rate? It depends on the operating conditions; if the outlet is closed, it makes sense to use the full amount. Of course, sometimes the valves are provided by the pump manufacturer, who has a good understanding of the performance characteristics; they can protect the pump, so it’s advisable to follow their recommendations.
