For determining the material level in mobile bed gasifiers such as Ruchi or BGL, is it necessary to use observation holes installed in the furnace wall in addition to radar measurements placed on the top of the furnace? Is it said that radar measurements aren’t necessarily reliable? Thank you for sharing your experience.
Radar level gauges are indeed used, but I’ve never heard of observation ports; we have 22 Lurgi gasifiers and not a single one of those observation ports.
Normally, operations are carried out with the furnace filled to capacity; then what is the purpose of monitoring the material level inside the furnace?
It’s probably to ensure that the material level is normal, so as to avoid unexpected inaccuracies in the radar readings due to an excessively low material level
At Luchi, we always operate with the furnace at full capacity; it’s possible to determine whether it’s at full capacity by checking the temperature of the furnace top flange. So, designing radars and observation ports isn’t necessary, right? ! !
