I would like to ask the teachers: under what circumstances are dome-shaped end caps used?
They are widely used in high-pressure structures, offering the best stress resistance among all types of end caps. Dome-shaped end caps are used in floating-head heat exchangers, while spherical end caps are more commonly employed in fatigue-resistant equipment that makes use of stress analysis.
Oh, thank you. For the current set of units, the diameter of the heat exchanger required is around DN800. The technicians here suggest using a domed head; I’m not sure why, as they say it can withstand greater stress than ordinary legged (elliptical) heads. But in the units built before, domed heads weren’t used either. Could it be because the diameter of this heat exchanger is larger?
When should the value of λ for a spherical head be 1, 0.9, 0.8, or 0.7?
Tower-type equipment has multiple chambers, and arch-shaped heads are also commonly used for the intermediate partition heads.
