Some time ago, the slurry pump experienced vacuum conditions, while the other heavy oil pumps were functioning normally. The slurry pump worked properly again after the seal oil was removed and the water was drained. Could it be that the same seal oil has different effects on different heavy oil pumps?
Answering your question: Why does it cause evacuation? The reason is that the sealing oil is a diesel component; if it contains water, it will vaporize instantly upon entering the pump casing of the machine pump, resulting in vacuum formation in the pump. Okay then. What do we need to consider now? 1. If the sealing methods of the slurry pump and other heavy oil pumps are different, in some cases, seal oil is directly injected into the pump chamber. Some of the seal oil returns to the seal oil tank after passing through the pump’s sealing ring. Relatively speaking, the direct injection has a greater impact; if the sealing types of the slurry pump and the heavy oil pump in your unit are different, this can be used to explain it. 2. The second explanation is that the temperature of the medium inside the pump casing differs, but this seems a bit far-fetched. That possibility also exists. 3. Seal oil flow issue: If the slurry pump is located closer to the source of the seal oil, it is very likely to be emptied first. 4. The last reason is related to the amount of seal oil used. In fact, there is always a certain amount of water in the seal oil, but it’s a matter of how much. According to what is stated in the books we’ve read, when a large amount of water is present in the seal oil – that is, when a large quantity of seal oil is injected – it’s very likely that the fluid will be emptied first due to that high water content.
