What are the characteristics of environmental noise? How to control it?
Use low-noise equipment, add silencers, and install soundproof walls.
Noise characteristics: Environmental noise is a type of sensory pollution. It has limitations and dispersion, namely limitations in the range of influence and dispersion in the distribution of sound sources. Noise pollution is also temporary. Control: 1. Controlling the sound source is the basic method and most effective means of reducing or eliminating noise. (1) Improve mechanical design. (2) Improve production processes. (3) Enhance machining precision and assembly quality. (4) Strengthen administrative management. 2. Control transmission routes: (1) Separate noisy areas from quiet areas and increase the distance between them; utilize the natural attenuation of noise by locating sound sources far away from classrooms and rest areas. (2) Change direction: Utilize the directivity of the sound source (different directions result in different sound levels) to direct the noise source toward an unoccupied area. If the exhaust outlet of a high-pressure boiler is directed toward the sky, it can reduce noise by 10 dB(A) compared to when it is directed toward residential areas. (3) Install barriers: Placing barriers between the noise source and the receiver can effectively prevent the propagation of noise. 3. Strengthen personal protection by wearing ear protection (earplugs, earmuffs, helmets), which can reduce noise by 10–40 dB(A)
