Do all acid pipeline flanges need to be equipped with protective covers?
I’ve been in contact with salt-acid pipelines; I’ve never seen this at the site. One of our alkali solution valves experiences frequent leakage at the gaskets and the large cover, due to the valves being closed at both ends and heat being applied in the middle; to protect the employees, metal covers were installed in those areas. Later, I found out the reason; once the valves on both sides were not closed anymore, such problems didn’t occur.
It doesn’t seem to be a mandatory requirement; it’s good to do it if you want, but it doesn’t look good from an aesthetic perspective. My sulfuric acid pipelines here don’t have anything like that!

We did the same after foreign experts conducted an inspection and gave their recommendations. Because the reason is simple – there is indeed a certain degree of risk – no regulatory basis was sought.
