I would like to ask fellow sea professionals: when the raw water storage tank of the wastewater stripping unit is shut down for maintenance and needs to be sterilized by steaming, how should the waste gas be handled? On top of the tank are a water seal tank and a deodorization tank.
We only have experience with failures in this regard, with no successful experiences at all; if you really want to use steam, the water seal tank simply cannot provide a proper seal.
First, may I ask what kind of deodorization device you have? It’s best not to steam this acidic water tank, as the steam produced is difficult to handle. The method we used before was this: during maintenance, we tried to remove as much liquid as possible first; there was still a lot of sludge at the bottom of the tank. Then we poured chemical agents into it (I’m not exactly sure what they were – it seems to be something like potassium permanganate, but different from the agents used to eliminate odors in cleaning towers). This process was repeated for about a day and night. By the next day, the sludge could be removed using a sewage truck or another vehicle designed for transporting sludge. At that point, there wasn’t much odor left inside. After that, we put on respirators, opened the valves at the top, and blew air in from below to replace the air. Once testing was done, it was possible to deal with the remaining dirt on the walls of the tank.

It is highly not recommended to use a steaming tank; even with a deodorization tank, the problem cannot be properly resolved. It is advisable to carry out deodorization and cleaning, as these methods are now quite mature.
