A truck crane is a device with good mobility and flexible operation, but since it requires supports to stabilize its structure, it is not suitable for use in harsh environmental conditions. However, truck cranes can move freely on roads, and their lifting capacity ranges from 8 tons to 1,000 tons; they are the cranes with the highest production volume and widest use in China. At the bottom inside the boom of a truck crane, there is a rotating drum surrounded by steel cables; these cables pass over pulleys at the top of the previous section of the boom, thereby pulling that section outward, and this process repeats itself. When retracted, the drum automatically reverses to pull in the steel wire rope, and the boom also retracts due to its own weight. The rotating drum is driven by a hydraulic motor; it appears to have two oil pipes, but don’t assume that these are hydraulic cylinders. The telescopic arm of a truck crane is equipped with set-mounted piston-type cylinders. However, this plug-type cylinder increases the cost of the crane significantly; moreover, the elastic deformation of the boom under load reduces the lifespan of the cylinder, which is why such truck cranes are relatively rare.
