The university awarded the Times’ title of Best University of 2016 was not one of those that consistently made it into the top ten of the rankings, but instead the University of Leeds, which ranked 13th on the list. The annual Times and Sunday Times University Rankings are eagerly awaited by everyone in the UK and abroad who is interested in British universities. This is of course because The Times’ ranking of British universities not only has the longest history but also enjoys the highest international reputation. The top 10 British universities according to the 2016 Times ranking: 1. University of Cambridge, 2. Oxford University, 3. University of St Andrews, 4. Durham University, 5. News reports generally stop at this point. However, in my opinion, the insights and analyses of British universities provided behind The Times’ rankings are far more valuable as a reference than the rankings themselves.
