In industry, fuming sulfuric acid is produced by bringing gaseous sulfur trioxide into contact with liquid 98% sulfuric acid. If liquid sulfur trioxide is used to produce fuming sulfuric acid without vaporizing the sulfur trioxide, can fuming sulfuric acid still be obtained? I would appreciate it if the experts could give me some advice……
Sulfuric acid production is a continuous process; if sulfur trioxide is cooled to a liquid state, first, the production time increases, and second, the temperature required to cool sulfur trioxide drops significantly, resulting in higher costs. Dissolving it directly with sulfur trioxide in concentrated sulfuric acid is the most economical method. If you can obtain liquid sulfur trioxide directly without going through a contact oxidation process, then it is possible to mix that liquid sulfur trioxide with concentrated sulfuric acid.
The contact area between gaseous sulfur trioxide and the sprayed 98% acid is relatively large; but how can a large contact area be achieved when liquid sulfur trioxide comes into contact with liquid 98% acid? It probably won’t work if you go in directly... I’m quite torn about this
It’s possible; there should be a cooling device that will release heat
The low heat release should be fine; it’s just that there might be salt inside, which makes filtering difficult
It’s fine to directly introduce it with heat addition.
