The exhaust system flow in our company is as follows: process exhaust and vacuum pump exhaust → sodium hypochlorite absorption → gas-liquid separation tank → fan → main air duct; at the end of the main air duct there is an induced draft fan, after which the exhaust enters the incineration system. I now want to add a water seal tank before entering the main air duct. Should it be placed before the fan or after it?

Generally, adding a water seal to the tank is done to prevent gas from flowing back. You think it’s unnecessary to add a water seal tank to this device. Water seal tanks are easy to refill, but they are difficult to manage. In winter, one needs to decide whether to empty the water completely, whether to keep it warm, and how often to refill it. Speaking of which, if you really want to install this device, it can be added after sodium hypochlorite absorption, before it enters the separator. It can also be added after the fan. No matter where it is added, air pressure must be used to overcome this water pressure. It is added after sodium hypochlorite absorption; at this point, the air pressure needs to be provided by a vacuum pump. Generally, the pressure at the outlet of such a vacuum pump is only slightly higher than atmospheric pressure. Therefore, it is not cost-effective to increase the pressure at the outlet of the vacuum pump. When added after the fan, it increases the fan’s air pressure and the overall motor power, which may not be cost-effective.

I don’t understand why you need to add a water seal tank here; if it’s to prevent gas from flowing back in the main pipe, then a few check valves at the entrance to the main pipe would suffice; If it is to prevent tempering, then install a flame arrester before entering the incinerator. Here, we generally use water seal tanks only in exhaust gas absorption or flare systems

Why is this water seal tank needed? Is there any backflow occurring? Consider the exhaust emission pressure, whether there are other solid particles and corrosive components in the exhaust, as well as water-soluble components
I agree with you; generally, a check valve is sufficient for such pipes, and if that doesn’t work, then two check valves of different types can be used. Adding a water seal is actually quite troublesome.
