Generally, it consists of a balance disc and a balance drum; most of the axial force is balanced by the balance disc and the balance drum, while the remaining part is taken care of by the thrust bearings
During pump startup, all axial forces are borne by the bearings; during normal operation, they are borne by the balance disk and balance sleeve
It is generally believed that during normal operation, 70% of the axial force is carried by the balance disc and balance sleeve, while 30% is carried by the thrust bearings. However, during startup, it is mainly the thrust bearing that bears the load.
There are also balance discs and balance drums, forming a balance disc-drum structure that bears all the axial forces. The thrust disc is used only during startup and shutdown; during adjustment, it is advisable to leave a gap of around 0.1–0.12 MM between the balance disc and the grinder, after the thrust disc has made contact with the bearing surfaces.
Balancing a shaft eliminates most of the axial forces; the remaining forces are eliminated by thrust bearings or bearings such as deep groove ball bearings.
