Dear sea friends, I have a question: For the pressure testing of large-diameter circulating water pipes in my project, can the butterfly valve at the outlet of the circulating water pump (DN1200) and the DN1200 butterfly valve in the boundary device be used as blind flanges for the pressure testing? Is it true that the larger the diameter, the greater the force per unit F=PS, and that some kind of thrust stop device is needed? I remember that the specifications state that end caps should be used for pipeline pressure testing; if it’s made of steel plate, then reinforcement or some kind of thrust stop device is required! The common practice is to remove the valve and install a blind flange for testing, along with a pressure testing pump rated at 1.25 times the nominal pressure and a pressure gauge.

For pressure testing of large-diameter circulating water pipes, the pressure is generally not high; it is sufficient to keep the pipe at a certain pressure under continuous operation and then conduct the inspection. This is perfectly fine for use within a company itself. If pressure testing is required after the completion of a project, blind flanges can only be used for this purpose; a blind flange is installed at the flange where the butterfly valve is connected, and its thickness can be found in the tables provided in the book \"Installation of Chemical Equipment\".
Don’t be lazy. Following the procedure means we can’t bear the responsibilities and consequences. The pressure isn’t really high, and the consequences may not be serious, but it will be troublesome if accountability is sought in the future.
