We deal with benzyl trichloride; when chlorine is introduced into toluene, waste gases are generated (hydrogen chloride and residual chlorine). Chlorine is introduced into both the main reactor and a secondary reactor, with the secondary reactor absorbing some of the chlorine that cannot be absorbed by the main reactor. However, it is not possible to absorb all of this chlorine completely during production. Most of the hydrogen chloride is absorbed by water to form salt acids, while the remaining gases (hydrogen chloride and chlorine) are sent through fans to an alkaline spray tower filled with diluent solution before being released into the atmosphere. Now the problem is that without adding lye, the water will quickly become acidic, and as it cannot be absorbed, chlorine odor is emitted in large quantities into the air ; And when liquid alkali is added, the remaining chlorine gas reacts with the diluted liquid alkali to form a sodium hypochlorite solution; this also has a strong chlorine odor. It’s really frustrating. I wonder how others deal with this situation? ?
Is the temperature high? If it’s not high, it can be sent directly through an alkali washing tower; the concentration of the NaOH solution should be maintained at a certain level using a dosing pump. If the concentration is too high, then an RTO device must be used for treatment
