Hello everyone. When we clean or adjust a storage tank, we usually purge it with nitrogen before introducing oil. Is the reason for this fear that static electricity may be generated as the oil flows, thereby reducing the oxygen content? If that is the case, how is the highest level of oxygen content determined? Is it possible to use vacuum pumping instead of nitrogen purging? Can that gas volume withstand a certain external vacuum pressure? Thank you
Replacing the system with nitrogen is mainly to prevent explosive gases from forming when oil and gas mix with air. What I have seen is that the oxygen content is generally no more than 0.5%. What is used to create a vacuum? Most of these devices don’t have this.
Thank you for your reply. Vacuuming involves using a compressor to extract the flammable and explosive gases from inside. A negative pressure is created in that tank, and then the liquid contained in it is injected into the gas phase of the medium being stored until the gas pressure is reached. Inject the liquid phase again. Take liquefied petroleum gas (propane butane) as an example. After evacuating the pressure (actually to just -18 mbarg), the gaseous propane is injected into the storage tank. Up to 8barg. Then liquefied petroleum gas is injected. Is this method feasible? It is also the reduction of oxygen content within the mash. Because it’s the first time I’ve seen anyone use this method as well. Is it possible at a lower level?
Do you have your own vacuum pump? It’s quite troublesome; it is recommended to use nitrogen for purging, with the oxygen content to be kept below 0.5%. If there are requirements regarding the dew point, then the dew point must also be measured~~
You can calculate by yourself how much oxygen remains after vacuuming; if a certain amount of flammable gas is introduced, will that exceed the explosion limit?~~ But in any case, it’s not as safe as using nitrogen for displacement~~ Hehe
