Methanol – Weekly Topic: Reasons for the decrease in catalyst temperature in the synthesis tower, and how to deal with it (with on-site examples) 2016.03.07---03.13 (1) Fault in the self-regulating valve; the valve opened wider, resulting in a decrease in the pressure in the steam drum. Action: Open the bypass valve of the automatic control valve to maintain normal pressure, close the cut-off valves before and after the automatic control device, and contact the instrumentation team for repair. (2) Large circulation air volume. Treatment: Open the bypass valve of the circulation machine to reduce the amount of circulating air. (3) The amount of fresh gas decreases. Action: Reduce the circulation air volume and contact the dispatch to increase the load. (4) The hydrogen-to-carbon ratio is too high or too low. Action: Contact the scheduler to adjust the composition of the syngas. (5) Catalyst poisoning and decreased activity. Action: Contact the scheduler to ensure that the purified gas from the previous stage is of qualified quality ; At the same time, the reaction temperature can be appropriately increased by 2–3°C. (6) The drum blowdown volume is too high. Solution: Reduce waste discharge. (7) High methanol content in the gas entering the tower: Solution – Reduce the temperature of the gas exiting the water cooler or lower the liquid level in the methanol separator, depending on the specific cause. (8) High content of inert gases. Treatment: Increase the processing capacity for hydrogen recovery from vent gases. (9) The temperature measuring instrument is malfunctioning. Action: Contact the instrument maintenance team. (10) Operational error. Action: Adjust the operations as soon as possible to increase the temperature.
